How Does LANAP Work?
LANAP, which stands for laser-assisted new attachment procedure, is a gentle, non-invasive laser treatment for gum disease that stimulates the growth of healthy gum tissue and supporting bone. LANAP can help you avoid painful surgical treatment that removes even healthy gum tissue. Dr. Samadian employs the PerioLase® pulsed laser to target bacteria and harmful tissues without affecting the adjacent healthy tissue for true histological bone regeneration. There is no need for scalpels or sutures, and the recovery time is vastly improved in comfort and duration.
The need for LANAP can arise from both periodontitis as well as infection around a dental implant. If you have red, tender gums around the implants, discharge at the implant site, painful swelling, gum color changes, or bleeding, you may be in need of LANAP treatment. The good news is that you can expect to require only 1-2 treatments compared to multiple sessions with more invasive treatments.
Am I a Good Candidate?

What’s the Procedure Like?
Dr. Samadian begins your treatment with the PerioLase® laser to direct the pulsed energy at the affected gums. The laser uses 7 variable pulse durations for discrete tissue interactions. You endure no incisions or stitches, so you’ll heal faster than with traditional invasive treatments. Your entire mouth can be treated in one 3-4 hour-long session. Because there’s no cutting involved, most patients don’t even require pain medication to resume normal activities within 1 day.
