Is There Any Recovery with Dental Crowns?

Sometimes unfortunate things happen, and we can chip, crack, or otherwise damage a tooth. As distressing as this may be, Dr. Amin Samadian can help with modern and minimally invasive techniques to save damaged teeth and preserve their integrity and aesthetics with same-day dental crowns.

How Do Dental Crowns Work?

A dental crown is a porcelain cap that fits over an existing damaged tooth or the dental implant placed in the hole left by a missing tooth. This restores your tooth’s integrity and enhances chewing function while keeping your bite properly aligned and your smile aesthetically pleasing.

Dental crowns may sound like a drawn out process, but with same-day crowns, they don’t have to be. Dr. Samadian can fit same-day crowns in a single 90-minute session. You save time and effort by removing the need for multiple office visits spread over weeks, and with advanced technology, you can avoid a temporary crown and the need for unpleasant dental impressions. Dental crowns offer high quality, durable, aesthetically beautiful full-porcelain restorations.

Dr. Samadian also uses biomimetic dentistry techniques, which emphasizes preserving your natural teeth using materials that mimic your biological tooth structure. The purpose is to restore your damaged teeth with materials that replicate your natural enamel, dentin, and pulp vitality so your crown looks and functions exactly like your natural teeth. Biomimetic dentistry goes hand in hand with minimally invasive dentistry, an approach designed to preserve as much of your original teeth and tissues as possible while fully repairing tooth damage.

Where possible, Dr. Samadian uses bonding dentistry to repair chips, cracks, decay, or discoloration of damaged teeth. It’s a composite resin applied to the tooth’s surface which can be shaped to repair cracks and chips, lengthen teeth, and close space between teeth.

Immediate dentin sealing protocol is another technique in tooth restoration to prevent bacterial contamination. Dentin sealing forms a hybrid layer to decrease tooth sensitivity while protecting and preserving as much of your natural tooth as possible. This hybrid layer is a polymerized resin with a collagen fiber matrix that protects freshly exposed dentin. By sealing and preserving as much of your natural tooth as possible, Dr. Samadian can achieve tooth restoration that is precisely matched to your natural teeth.

How are Dental Crowns Done in a Day?

By using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) technology, your dental crowns can be designed, fabricated, and custom fit in one appointment lasting just under 2 hours. Your new porcelain crowns are color-matched to your surrounding teeth for a natural-looking restoration, and they can be fabricated as thin as .8 mm. For patients whose previous fillings need to be upgraded to crowns, Dr. Samadian most often won’t need to alter a healthy tooth structure to achieve your crown fitting.

Because treatment with Dr. Samadian includes an in-office laboratory, all dental crowns and appliances are made to exacting specifications and quality materials he oversees personally and holds to a higher standard. Many procedures are performed as same-day services while still using the best technology and materials available. Cutting edge dental care is a daily aspiration in the offices of Dr. Samadian.

Is There Any Recovery with Dental Crowns?

Patient comfort is a top priority for Dr. Samadian, so your dental crown fitting will begin with local anesthesia to make sure you feel an as little discomfort as possible. You may experience some mild discomfort for 2 weeks following your procedure as you become accustomed to the porcelain crown fitting. But with time, your new crown should appear, function, and feel similar to your natural teeth. Dental care is also the same as with your regular teeth, with twice-daily brushing, once-daily flossing, and the use of mouthwash for maximum dental health.

Dr. Amin Samadian takes the time to explain not only what your treatment plan involves, but why his method and treatment recommendations are the best options for you. You can be secure knowing your smile is in great hands.
