What is the Recovery Time for the All-On-Four Dental Implant Procedure?

If you’re missing several teeth and would like to restore your smile with dental implants, the All-on-Four dental implant procedure may be an ideal option. It involves fewer implants than a traditional implant procedure and can save you time as a result.

How All-on-Four Dental Implants Work

All-on-Four dental implants can give you a full set of teeth with only four implants. These four implants will provide the support for a full arch of non-removable replacement teeth. With the All-on-Four procedure, you can enjoy a full set of teeth without having to undergo multiple surgeries.

Dr. Amin Samadian highly recommends All-on-Four or the “Smile in A Day” procedure to patients who have had extensive tooth loss or need their remaining teeth pulled as a result of decay or periodontal disease.

Recovery Period for All-on-Four Dental Implants

Since this is a minimally invasive procedure that uses oral sedation, the recovery period is fairly simple. The sedation should wear off in approximately 4 to 5 hours following the procedure, therefore you will need to ask a trustworthy friend or family member to drive you home. You’ll also need to follow a liquid and soft food diet for a few days. In the event you do notice any immediate pain and swelling, pain medications can help. You’ll be able to resume work within two to three days.

On the other hand, if you have teeth and bone grafting is required, you can expect a healing period of three weeks. Following the procedure, you will have a temporary denture placed on top of the implants. After approximately six months, the implants will have integrated with your bone. After this period, you will return to our office so that Dr. Amin Samadian can remove the temporary fixed denture and place your final fixed denture which in most cases will have a titanium bar in it that makes it very strong and durable. You’ll need to take antibiotics and use an antimicrobial mouthwash during this time. These dentures that are screwed to the implants are called hybrid dentures and they don’t come out of the mouth like traditional dentures and they look like dental bridges.

Benefits of All-on-Four Dental Implants

In addition to a short recovery period, All-on-Four dental implants come with a number of other benefits. Since they look and function like natural teeth, you can eat and drink normally with them in your mouth. You can also reduce the health issues that come with failing teeth and restore your confidence. In addition, with proper care (brushing, flossing, and routine dentist visits), you’ll find that your All-on-Four dental implants last a lifetime. You will also keep your bone level because of having implants in the area which is extremely critical.
