Dental Implants

Restore your smile

Dental implants can allow you to achieve proper alignment to restore your confidence and avoid dental complications down the road. Dr. Amin Samadian takes a comprehensive approach to dental implants by looking at the whole mouth, including the bite, bone support, and gum coverage.  Let’s take a closer look at what dental implants are and how you may benefit from them.*

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are a great way to replace missing teeth and also provide a fixed solution to having bridges, removable partial or complete dentures. They also provide excellent support and stability for these dental appliances.*

Essentially, dental implants are artificial roots and teeth that are usually made of titanium and surgically placed into the upper or lower jaw bone by a dentist or surgeon like Dr. Amin Samadian.*

Reasons for dental implants

There are a number of reasons Dr. Samadian may recommend dental implant surgery. Tooth replacement may be a good option if the goal is to:*

  • Replace one or more missing teeth without affecting adjacent teeth.
  • Resolve joint pain or bite problems caused by teeth shifting into missing tooth space.
  • Restore your confident smile.
  • Improve chewing, speech, and digestion.
  • Enhance facial tissues.
  • Support a bridge or denture, making it more secure and comfortable.
  • Preserve your bone from resorption

Dr. Smadian uses advanced Cone Beam CT scan technology to assess the
nerves, sinuses, bone density, bone width and height. This will determine if you’re a good candidate for dental implants or you need to build your bone in that area first through procedures such as sinus lifts and bone augmentations, which he also performs.*

One of the major benefits of dental implants to preserve the jaw bone. When teeth are extracted, the bone that was holding the tooth also resorbs and patients will lose the chance of receiving implants in the future over time. The other negative effect of leaving an area empty is that the tooth next to the empty area will shift and it will negatively affect the bite and teeth alignment at will cause trauma to other teeth and in many cases in TMJ.*

What does getting dental implants involve?

Dr. Amin Samadian is pleased to use XGuide navigational live guided surgery, or robotic implant placement, a cutting-edge technology that allows him to provide the most accurate dental implants. It focuses on three specific purposes in order to enhance the overall success rate of dental implant procedures including*:

  • The depth of the implant.
  • The angle of the implant.
  • The position of the implant.

While Dr. Samadian conducts your tooth replacement procedure, you can expect him to use the XGuide technology that gathers the data that comes from the Cone Beam CT scan. This is used to navigate the hands of the surgeon to the
utmost precision that is almost impossible to achieve without this aid. This gives Dr. Samadian a live and accurate view of the position of the drill as well as your mouth so that he can place the implant in the optimal position, most of the time without the need for cutting the gum or placing stitches.*

Once Dr. Samadian places the implant over your jaw and covers it with gum tissue, it will need to integrate into your jawbone for two to six months*. Dr. Samadian will attach a post to the implant and allow the gum tissue to grow up around it. In some cases, he’ll place the implant and post at the same time. The procedure will end when he attaches a customized crown to the implant post.

Are dental implants painful?

Dr. Amin Samadian uses a variety of advanced techniques to make your procedure as comfortable as possible, such as flapless surgery, guided surgery, and robotic placement, as well as different sedation techniques such as Oral, IV, nitrous oxide and local anesthesia, Biostimulation with LASER. He also offers detailed aftercare instructions to make sure you are as comfortable as possible after the implant replacement surgery.*

Since you’ll receive a local anesthetic to numb your gums and jawbone, you shouldn’t experience any pain or discomfort during tooth replacement surgery. Dr. Amin Samadian may prescribe a pain medication that you can take if you start to notice some discomfort after the first 24 hours. For most of the simple cases, over the counter pain medications are all that the patients need.*

He’ll also encourage you to drink plenty of fluids and avoid hot foods or liquids for a short time frame after the surgery. In addition, he may suggest that you apply an ice pack on your cheek to reduce swelling. Biting on a gauze pad may also be recommended to alleviate any bleeding.*

What results will I see?

After the implants are finally restored with porcelain crowns, they will function completely like normal teeth and will look exactly like your own natural tooth*. One of the main advantages of placing the implants as soon as possible is that it prevents the teeth around that site from moving and negatively affecting that bone structure, bite relationship and the periodontal health of the area. If an area of the mouth has no teeth for a long period of time, we lose bone support and it becomes more and more challenging to restore. We may need to add procedures such as orthodontic correction of the bite, reconstruction of the bite in that site and gum treatments to redo and restore the function*.

Fortunately, caring for dental implants is a breeze. You’ll care for them the same you would care for your natural teeth by brushing and flossing daily and visiting a dentist for routine exams and cleanings. Dr. Samadian recommends using Waterpik or any type of water flosser in addition to regular flossing and coming every 3 to 4 months for periodontal maintenance appointments to ensure the highest success rate of the implants.*
