Ridge Augmentation

Recreate the natural contour of your gums and jaw

The alveolar ridge of your jaw is the bone that surrounds the roots of your tooth. When a tooth is removed, your alveolar ridge bone will be left with an empty socket. While the empty socket will usually heal on its own and fill up with bone and tissue, sometimes it is unable to do so.

In this case, ridge augmentation may be a good option. It can rebuild the original height and width of your alveolar ridge so that a dental implant can be placed.

What is a ridge augmentation?

Also known as alveolar ridge repair, ridge augmentation is a common dental treatment that is typically performed after a tooth extraction to recreate the natural contour of the gums and jaw that may have been lost as a result of tooth extraction or a different reason.

Reasons for ridge augmentation

Dr. Admin Samadian may recommend ridge augmentation if you have missing teeth or have surgically extracted teeth and are going to receive dental implants but the bone is not enough to support the implant. You may also benefit from this treatment if you have broken or damaged alveoli as it may fill any empty cavities with a bone graft. In the event you can’t receive dental implants because of low bone density or lack of bone, ridge augmentation is ideal.

What does ridge augmentation involve?

During ridge augmentation, Dr. Admin Samadian will place a tissue or bone graft to fill the empty space from your missing tooth and create a healthy base for your dental implants. He usually performs this procedure right after tooth extraction surgery to minimize severe bone loss but many times it’s also performed independently of an extraction.

Once Dr. Amin Samadian places the grafting material into the alveolus, your gums will be carefully sutured over it to ensure proper healing. After the sockets have fully healed, he can prepare your alveolar ridge for dental implants.

Is ridge augmentation painful?

Ridge augmentation is performed under local anesthesia so you don’t have to worry about any discomfort.

What results will I see?

After alveolar ridge repair, you can enjoy a restored alveolar ridge that looks great and/or is ready for a dental implant procedure.
