What are root canal treatments?

The goal of a root canal treatment is to remove the diseased pulp (the part in the center of a tooth that is comprised of living connective tissue) along with the nerve of your tooth. It can save your natural tooth and improve your overall oral health.

Reasons for root canal treatments

Dr. Amin Samadian may recommend an endodontic treatment if the pulp of your teeth becomes infected, inflamed, or dies. The most common signs that indicate you may need a root canal include:

  • A discolored tooth
  • Tooth pain when you chew or bite down
  • Tooth sensitivity
  • A persistent gum sore
  • A lesion that shows on an x-ray or on Cone Beam CT scan

What do root canal treatments involve?

Before the treatment starts, Dr. Samadian will take a 3D cone beam CT scan that shows all the roots and canals of the tooth and it exactly shows if the root canal is affected or not. During a root canal treatment, Dr. Amin Samadian will remove the infected pulp from your tooth. Next, he’ll thoroughly clean and disinfect its inside. Once he’s removed all of the infection, he will use a rubber-like material to fill the open area. Lastly, Dr. Amin Samadian will restore your tooth with a crown or filling which is done the same day, using his onsite digital dental lab.

Is a root canal treatment painful?

Many patients worry that endodontic treatment will be a very painful procedure. Since Dr. Amin Samadian will use a series of numbing and anesthesia medication and gentle tools, you’ll likely find the procedure to nearly pain-free

What results will I see?

After a root canal treatment, your tooth will be saved, leading to more efficient chewing and a normal biting force and sensation. A root canal can also leave you with a natural appearance while protecting your other teeth from excessive wear or stain.
