Sedation Dentistry

Say goodbye to dental anxiety

Do you get nervous every time you go to the dentist? If so, know that you’re not alone. Just the thought of the dentist makes many people scared and anxious. Sometimes, this causes them to skip necessary appointments.

Fortunately, sedation dentistry in the Orinda, Moraga, and Lafayette area with Dr. Samadian can help you receive the dental treatments you need without any fear or discomfort. Dr. Amin Samadian has found sedation to be the ideal solution to dental anxiety.

What is sedation dentistry?

The main goal of sedation dentistry is to alleviate dental anxiety at the dentist. It can help you receive the dental care you need by turning down the part of your brain that controls fear and makes you feel anxious in the first place. Essentially, it’s a technique that’s used to allow you to feel calm when you’re in the dentist’s chair.

Reasons for sedation dentistry

There are a number of reasons sedation is recommended. If you have extreme anxiety about the dentist, regardless of whether you need a simple cleaning or a more complex procedure, Dr. Amin Samadian may recommend oral sedation or nitrous oxide. Sedation dentistry may also be a good option if the tools used at the dentist or an upcoming invasive procedure instill feelings of nervousness.

What does sedation dentistry involve?

If Dr. Amin Samadian believes you are a good candidate for sedation and you choose to move forward with it, you’ll receive medication for oral sedation or nitrous oxide. If you receive oral sedation, he’ll generally prescribe two doses of medication known as Triazolam. You’ll take one before bed the night before and another dose of Triazolam about an hour before the treatment. Since you won’t be able to drive, you’ll need someone to transport you to and from your appointment. He also uses other medications depending on the patient.

If prescribed nitrous oxide, you can expect to inhale it through a small mask that will fit comfortably over your nose. Dr. Samadian will mix the gas with oxygen as it’s being delivered and ensure it’s safe for your body. You can expect to feel a floating sensation and maybe even some tingling in your hands and feet. Once you’ve confirmed that you are comfortable and calm, your procedure will begin.

Is sedation painful?

Both oral sedation and nitrous oxide are completely painless. In fact, they will allow you to feel completely relaxed and comfortable while you’re receiving dental care and you will forget most of the procedure, which is another great advantage of sedation.

What results will I see?

With sedation dentistry in Orinda with Dr. Samadian, you can receive the dental treatments you need to achieve and maintain healthy teeth and gums. Without it, you may avoid quality dental care and face serious oral health complications in the future.
